working with engineers on a daily basis often makes for some good stories.
exhibit A.
today was new student orientation for incoming freshman for summer.
my job was holding the sign and leading them back to our building.
i thought i'd be nice, ask a few questions, get them excited for being here.
next thing i know this is how the conversation is going-
freshman boy: so you play soccer?
me: uhh...no.
i play some tennis.
f.boy: oh, no way! me too!
me: that's sweet.
f.boy: yeah. i'm taking the tennis class this summer.
me: oh, i've heard those are fun.
f.boy: so are you going to take it this summer?
me: no-i'm not taking any classes.
f.boy: you should sign up for it. it would be fun.
exhibit B.
we have these mints and jelly beans on our counter.
let me be honest-they aren't the greatest things in the world.
but we have our usual "mint boys".
you know the ones that come in and say,
"oh, i'm just here for a mint. but what's your name?"
exhibit C.
sometimes we have to look up students for various reasons.
they have pictures online so sometimes we say,
"look how cute this guy is."
it's funny when the next thing you know you look up and the live version is standing a foot in front of you and you can't mention anything about it because then you just look like a creeper, but as soon as they walk out me and hilary turn to each other and say, "that was the kid!"
exhibit D.
cute runner boy.
[technically not an engineering boy.]
we're hoping he comes by again one day soon....
exhibit E.
sometimes they are just really. really. really. awkward.
my job rocks. seriously.

Please retract this statement. I find it QUITE offensive.
I agree with libby, the mints are AWESOME.
and i hope runner boy is back this week. if he comes in, we should ask him where he has been all of our lives. seriously.
